WDR reports on the GRÜN IT Club of GRÜN aixtema
On 22 May 2025, the WDR Local Time Aachen a TV report about the GREEN IT Club broadcast – a project of the GRÜN aixtema GmbHthat makes it easier for older people to access the digital world.
The GRÜN IT Club is part of an initiative within the GRÜN Group . Its aim is to support people – especially the older generation – in using digital devices safely and confidently. In addition to training courses, the club offers personal consultations, technical support, and regular meetings in a club format. Further information can be found in our press release about the GRÜN IT Club.
Digital participation through IT training for seniors
How do you sell something on eBay? How does a QR code menu work? How do you properly secure a smartphone? These and many other questions are the focus of the courses regularly offered by the GRÜN IT Club. Participants are mostly retirees who have little prior experience and desire greater security in their everyday digital lives.
One example from the article is Almuth Grüner (70), who openly describes her situation. She says that an acquaintance used to help her with technical questions – today she's a regular at the IT Club. "What bothers me is that I'll eventually be left behind – so I stuck with it."
Reliable contact point for digital questions
Markus Hahmann, head of the GRÜN IT Club, explains the philosophy behind the GRÜN IT Club:
"We deliberately focus on low-threshold services. It's not about charging for every request immediately, but rather about relieving older people's fear of technology – with time, patience, and understandable answers."
The courses take place at senior-friendly times, usually in the early afternoon. The content is geared towards actual needs—whether online banking, apps, video telephony, or internet security. The TV report clearly demonstrates that there is a great need for understandable digital education—and not just among the participants. Family members and volunteers are also grateful for the offering, which helps to break down digital barriers.
The full TV report can be found in the WDR Mediathek – Lokalzeit Aachen from May 22, 2025.
